Glenfiddich Experimental Series ‘Project XX’

Our pick for the whisky you simply must put on your bucket list this calendar week. You’ll find scotches, bourbons, ryes, Japanese whisky, and more in the mix, but the one thing they all have in common? We’ll go to bat for them.

Why We Love It:
Because it marries 20 equally expressive malts across types and profiles, and does it seamlessly. An endeavour like this could easily have been a mess, but instead, it is a symphony of beautiful notes.

The Notes: Woody, woody, woody–with a bit of spice. You’ll also find some apple blossom, liquorice and summer fruit going on on the nose, flowing into sweet notes of vanilla, candy floss and cinnamon, with clove. And, of course, wood.

The Finish: This one has a nice, layered finish that lingers a few seconds after the final sip. Look for nuances of strong coffee, rich chocolate and oak.

Drink It Like This: Neat, all the way. This isn’t a whisky that warrants any kind of impious experimentation; it is too nuanced for that. To truly get into the depths of this malt, drink it without any kind of ice or chaser interference.

Pair It With: Pork pairs well with the apple notes of this whisky, but if you’re not a meat eater, fresh strawberries or a strawberry dessert will bode just as well.
