South Seas Distilleries – The Oldest & Largest Makers of Mahura Spirits
In 1922, six brothers from a small town in present-day Maharashtra began crafting spirits from exotic fruits and flowers for royal families. Today, honouring their legacy, the fourth generation proudly presents the world’s only luxury Mahura spirits, created using refined techniques and over a century of expertise. Six Brothers stands apart as India’s first luxury heritage spirit.
The Mahura Flower
Native to the Indian subcontinent, the Mahura flower (also known as Mhowra, Mahuva, Mahua or Mohua, depending on its geographical location within India) blooms in spring, releasing a strong fragrance and offering a sweet taste due to its high sugar content. It is primarily found in the forests of western, eastern, and central India. At South Seas Distilleries, the Mahura flowers are harvested from the surrounding forests, dried, and double-distilled in India’s largest copper pot stills, which have been part of the distillery for decades. This distillation process brings out the unique floral profile of the spirit.
Mahura Spirits by South Seas Distilleries
Every bottle of Six Brothers honours the Madhuca Longifolia tree, often called the ‘Tree of Life,’ symbolising resilience, growth, and continuity. This unique spirit celebrates the indigenous knowledge and craftsmanship that define Mahura, preserving and promoting time-honoured traditions while sharing the family’s story with the world. South Seas Distilleries integrates these traditions with sophistication, crafting a spirit as remarkable as its heritage.

Bottle Design
Each bottle features six pairs of eyes at the bottom, symbolising the brand’s mission to revive the heritage spirit. The all-seeing ‘Eye’ on the stopper represents a transcendental experience and the six brothers’ united vision to introduce an Indian spirit to the world. The tiger on the label and claw marks on the base represent the founders’ resilience and the guardianship of the forests where the Mahura flower grows.
