Before 1986 Rajasthan used to produce two dozen brands of completely desi Rum, Gin, Whiskey, Vodka, and Heritage liquor. Production of these brands discontinued because they couldn’t fight the competition that emerged from grain-based alcohol from private distilleries.

Now the state excise department trying to revive the heritage. Black Horse Whiskey and Black Jack Rum, Which was popular among Army and BSF in the 70s and 80s.Again customers in Rajashthan will see these heritage brands again in government retail stores soon.

According to a senior official, the department is initially making 5000 cases only, the price has not been finalized yet but it is expected to be in the range of INR 500-600 per 750ml.

previously, alcohol was made from sugarcane unlike food grains wheat bajara and rice. After the green revolution when grain production in the country has increased, the new version of heritage liquor will also be produced by grains.
