While Tapped Flight is not technically a microbrewery, it makes it to our list as it’s a one-of-a-kind monthly craft beer subscription service. Once a month, it sends its subscribers a box filled with 12 or 24 bottled and craft beers from breweries around the world. These include famous brews such as Brewdog, Kati Patang, Goa Brewing Co., Moonshine Meadery and Cerana Meads. Tapped flight is a great way to try new craft beers!
2. Drifters Breweries
This microbrewery stands out for its large range of Eastern European-inspired handcrafted beers. Drifters Breweries beer crafting processes replicates the centuries-old brewing techniques of the Czechs that have been passed down generations. The founders of this boutique brewery selected malt and hops from the Czech Republic and brewed beers that would be appreciated by Indian consumers. Presently, Drifters is located in Bandra Kurla Complex and it will soon be launching its second outlet in Bandra, along with one in Pune. Drifters Breweries Czech Pilsner, Vienna Lager, Cream Stout and Apple Cider are fresh, vibrant, perfectly balanced and hit the spot!
3. Independence Brewing Company
With a mission to offer a plethora of diverse beers, this microbrewery is the go-to brand for craft beer connoisseurs in Mumbai. The brewery’s Belgian Wit (brewed using pilsner, oats, coriander and orange peel), Blackberry Pie (a sour ale, aged with fresh blackberries), Porter (concocted with crystal and chocolate malt), and American Pale Ale (rich with notes of grapefruit and mango) are well-loved. Independence Brewing Company has its own restaurant in Andheri West, where it serves its in-house beers along with scrumptious multi-cuisine tapas such as Mushroom Chilli Fry, Peri Peri Chicken Skewers, Chicken Samosas and Apple and Walnut Salad.
4. Great State Aleworks
This Pune-based craft brewery has become a well-known name in the Mumbai beer circuit. It offers modern and experimental beers using local ingredients, with an emphasis on juicy IPAs, tangy sours and millet ales. The brewery is renowned for its DIY techniques, experimental small batch brews and innovative collaborations with brewers, harvesters and local producers. Great State Aleworks has collaborated with a number of Mumbai-based restaurants such as Qualia, O Pedro and FOO to craft special brews.
5. Gateway Brewing Company
Founded in 2011, this company is one the first microbreweries of Mumbai. Named after the iconic Gateway of India, the brewery crafts classic and experimental styles of beers. You can expect traditional ales and bold lagers passionately brewed with Indian and proprietary malts. Over the years, it has developed a cult following for its fresh and flavourful beers. The bestselling beers are the White Zen, Doppelgänger, and Side Car. Moreover, this brewery also has its own restaurant—Gateway Taproom in Bandra Kurla Complex. Along with a wide range of beers, the Gateway Taproom also serves beer cocktails and delectable food that pairs well with your drinks.
