Aberlour 12 Year Old Double Cask

The Aberlour 12 Year Old Scotch Whisky Double Cask is matured in both sherry casks and bourbon casks. It’s this dual aging which is responsible for its very unique taste and character, so if you are single malt lover there are enough reasons to try this. It’s a fairly full-bodied whisky, with a crisp, citrus character that gets its softness and layers from the traces of the mellowed spirits of its casks. Though it does have a spicy, Christmas cake nuance to it, another interesting aspect of this unique whisky is that it wont be heavy, so you can drink without worry across the warmer seasons as well.

It’s rich, velvety mouthfeel. The combination of oak and seasoned sherry butts gives it a delightful, inimitable fullness.

The Notes: It starts with a soft, red apple-laced nose. The palate sees the character from the sherry come in, bringing with it nuances of cinnamon, vanilla and raisins. This whisky is good news for drinkers who find the average scotch a bit too smokey for their taste.

The Finish: A spicy one, with a hint of sweetness, this has a lingering finish, with the sort of warmth that slowly spreads over your throat after it slips down.

Drink It Like : The profiles of this malt stand well on their feet without the support of chasers, so either drink this neat or with a tiny splash of water.

Pair It With: A great whisky to drink with a decadent dessert. A rich chocolate torte or a creamy chocolate ganache cake both are good to go.
